How much space does one person need? Well that depends on what your doing I suppose. I've spent years trying to work on various projects between rain showers, trying to stop the paint being blown off the brush, and laying on cold, wet, floors when tinkering with cars and such like.
So when the chance to expand my empire with another rental garage, right opposite home, came up I jumped at the chance. You'll note that I said another there, and that's because I've already got a garage that's packed to the rafters with bikes, tools, DIY stuff and other useful treasure, leaving absolutely no space for actually doing anything in it.
A whole garage to do stuff in, out of the wind and rain, that would be marvellous. But if I'm going to pay a lot of money every month to satisfy my need to tinker with stuff, then I'm going to make it a space that's actually useable and nice to work in first.
Well it's a space and it's dry but that's about it. Lets have a look and see what we can do with that!
Remember it's only rented so it needs to be returnable to a blank canvas at the end of any rental period!
A lick of white paint will help to brighten it up a bit and keep the dust down.
It could do with a bit of storage space though. I wonder if there's anything suitable hiding in here?
A bit of imagination and a touch of magic and somethings taking shape.
Stick on some doors and pretty it up a bit.
And what have we here!
A bit more painting. Note the addition of a false ceiling to reduce condensation and to provide a flat surface to paint white for better light reflection and to mount ceiling lighting. It's not easy getting 8'x4' sheets of 9mm OSB screwed onto the ceiling on your own that's for sure!
Paper roll / tape / roll holder.
12 V electrical supply - 100 Watt solar panel feeding 100AH leisure battery to supply 8x 12V LED lights. Hopefully that will provide sufficient power and lights to see what I'm doing on the long dark winter days and should have enough spare capacity to add more if required. (Note that the solar controller and panel has not been fitted in this picture).
Working out what space I've got left to play with!
Somewhere to stand my brew! Note floor painted to further reduce dust and make cleaning up easier as well as reflecting more light.
Starting to look a bit more like a useable space!
I think we'll call that done for the time being - Now lets start making use of that space.
